Welcome to the HSG

The University of St.Gallen focuses on high-class teaching, international research and regional roots. In this way, it is well equipped for the competition for the best heads.

Thank you for being interested in the University ofSt.Gallen (HSG), one of Europe’s leading business universities. 6,700 students, thousands of participants in our executive education programmes, 80 professors and just under 500 lecturers and researchers, all in all a staff of 2,200, create a centre for thinking, research and teaching in St.Gallen which also intends to keep abreast of the increasingly fierce international competition among universities.

Answers to social questions
We want to prepare our students for the challenges of global competition with its interlinked markets and intercultural challenges. Students and teachers alike should be able to profit from the HSG’s growing international reputation. Our international presence and culture of cooperation should attract excellent teachers and researchers to St.Gallen. This creates the prerequisites for the HSG to be able to offer solutions to topical issues of social and economic significance. Through this, but also through the value it creates, the HSG wants to make an essential contribution to the region, to Switzerland and to the international research community.

Integrativeand responsible
In future, too, we will rely on the following success factors:

• active contacts between economic sciences, law, social sciences, the humanities and international affairs;
• our high course quality;
• the entrepreneurial research culture practised by our institutes, which is based on a culture of trust;
• the bonds with our alumni;
• and internationalisation and the simultaneous cultivation of regional roots – in full awareness of our social responsibility.

The conditions for this consist of a predictable funding basis (which is strengthened by our high self-financing ratio of 50%), a service-oriented and efficient administration and our attractive campus with numerous possibilities for personal encounters.

We are pleased to welcome you to the University of St.Gallen as students, as participants in executive education programmes, as auditors in our public lecture programmes, as research partners, as members of staff, as alumni or as someone who is generally interested in the HSG

Prof. Dr. Thomas Bieger
